01Abstract
Orbital Foundry is developing autonomous in-space manufacturing modules designed to produce high-value optical fibers and semiconductor-grade materials in microgravity. By leveraging the unique physics environment of suborbital and orbital platforms, the company aims to unlock material qualities impossible to achieve on Earth while reducing launch dependency through modular reusable production systems.
02The problem
Many advanced materials suffer from imperfections caused by Earth’s gravity, vibration, and convection-driven contamination during manufacturing. Industries such as telecommunications, aerospace, quantum computing, and defense increasingly require ultra-pure fibers and crystals with higher performance characteristics than terrestrial factories can consistently produce.
03What we need
We are currently seeking strategic support in four primary areas:
• Access to suborbital and orbital flight opportunities for early material validation missions
• Partnerships with universities, material science laboratories, and aerospace hardware suppliers
• Advisors with expertise in thermal systems, vacuum manufacturing, and autonomous robotics
• Seed-stage funding to accelerate prototype development, flight certification, and early payload integration testing
Support from the SERA ecosystem would also help expand access to interdisciplinary contributors interested in space infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and commercial microgravity applications.
